What lies ahead… Your IMTV Guide to what’s on for the week: March 11th to 18th
Posted on: March 11, 2009No comments yet
Starting off tonight, Wednesday 11th in Whelans Ponytail plus guests Adebisi Shank & Jogging.
Ponytail are a four-piece multi-style rock act that have drawn comparisons to Deerhoof and Ecstatic Sunshine. Ponytail released their first slab of infectious sugar-fueled two-guitar trad punk in January of 2007. Tickets are €13 and doors are at 8pm.
Tomorrow night, Thursday 12th, Imelda May returns to home soil in light of her recent success in the UK. She was due to bring her rockabilly and roots sounds to The Button Factory, but due to a high demand for tickets the shows been moved to Tripod. Definitely worth a trip and a listen, thats if theres any tickets available at this stage. May is touring to promote her album ‘Love Tattoo’ so if you can’t make the gig then get your hands on a copy of that.

Also tonight if you fancy a look and listen at some of the finest Irish Hip Hop then take a trip to 4 Dame Lane for a specailty night featuring: Fon-Deuce, Lineage, Cullo, Young Dub, DJ Elemental, Jee4ce, DJ Gem, Nugget and Nailerz and breakdancing from The Belfast City Breakers
Friday night we are back to Whelans where fresh off the Choice stage are nominees Halfset. Dublin-based electronica band Halfset originally began as a collaboration between producer Steve Shannon and musician Jeff Martin. They released their debut album ‘Dramanalog’ in 2005 to quiet acclaim, but have now expanded their line-up to include more live instrumentation. Their second album ‘Another Way of Being There’ was released in 2008 and earned them a slot in this years Choice shortlist.
If you fancy some soulful crooning then head to the O2 Saturday night for some Lionel Richie! Other than that it seems to be a relatively quiet weekend on the music front, in my opinion anyway! But not for long as Lily Allen comes to the Academy on Monday 16th. Lily’s been doing a lot of touring for her new album ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’ and the once queen of MySpace has come a long way on her second album. Also, Monday night Butterfly Explosion take to the stage in Whelans.

And of course Paddy’s Day, March 17th, all attention turns to the Meteors. Check out our article on why IMTV loves the Meteors!!
Enjoy!
