I dont get it. Irish Music Television? Video Music Awards?
Well done everybody nominated, you deserve notice and credit for the amount of work you do.
But how many good music videos/shows does irish television broadcast? And why are they giving out awards for somthing (showing music videos on the telly)that they have so directly compromised over the past 5/6 years? This smells.
October 19th, 2009 at 7:48 pm
since when did they play irish music videos on irish
television?

Irish tv no longer shows Irish music videos, since the end of night shift on channel 6 there isn’t really an outlet for Irish acts to show videos hence there’s less and less reason for them to produce music videos. Imtv is an online channel however & our aim to to change this,to give Irish bands a place where they can show their videos,to recognise their efforts,to encourage film makers & bands to create & collaborate because as an online channel we are aware of the importance on video in an age were millions of videos are uploaded & viewed every day on YouTube facebook myspace etc. We hope these awards will encourage bands to make videos because we feel their music needs to be seen & heard & we hope to be a part to helping that happen
hope that doesn’t smell..

reading the above comments, is so typical and IRISH. I dont see any negative in this nor does it “smell”
I think it shows great initiative. Like Helen said ‘their aim to to change the lack of a platform out there to host music videos, thus giving Irish bands a place where they can show their videos, where their efforts can be recognised and where young and indeed established film makers can be encouraged to create & collaborate.
In an age where vimeo, youtube, muzu is thriving, why not embrace that platform and raise it.
Well done guys.

I didn’t know Irish bands were bothering wih videos for their songs anymore so it was great to spend some time finding these videos last night. Most of the nominees have made beautiful amazing videos and fair play to IMTV for organising this awards ceremony. It has already given the artists nominated a boost in a very difficult time in the music business.
I put my tips for the win on the music blog here http://2uibestow.blogspot.com/2009/10/imtv-nominees-announced.html

Does’nt smell at all. I was very proud of my first comment. My initial reaction was based on an assumption that this was a state-run shindig, put on by the very people who took music off our screens not so long ago. I was a good 5 mins patting myself on the back before i realised that I did’nt know what and who IMTV is, and what you’ve manages to do so far.
Awful Sorry. Best of luck to all nominees and congrats to IMTV for what you’ve managed to put together. Hope it raises the neccessary eyebrows.

Will we ever see the day of a 24 hour music channel from Ireland. Why are we the only country in Europe without a music channel.

oh wow, The Brilliant Things got a nomination! Delighted for them, the video doesn’t do all the justice that the performance does, not to mention the whole rest of the set that day!I hope they do well in the music industry.
Well done to everyone who was nominated, it’s brought some new bands to my attention!!

Where the hell are THE JAPANESE POPSTARS in all this?
They have been the biggest success story in Irish music this last 2 years. Their video for “Rise Of Ulysses” and “Face Melter” alone have got loads of MTV plays and are some of the best videos I’ve seem in a long while.
