IMTV TO HOST IRELAND’S FIRST VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS
Online Music Channel IMTV will host the very first exclusively Irish Video Music Awards.

Irish Music Television (IMTV) today (1st October 2009) announced the inaugural IMTV Video Music Awards to take place on the 27th November at The Sugar Club, Dublin.

The IMTV Video Music Awards are a music awards show recognising the creative endeavours and talents of filmmakers in creating music videos for Irish bands, musicians and DJs. Aiming to encourage Irish bands to collaborate with video directors and producers, combining these two art forms and reinforce a visual presence of Irish Music both online and on TV.

Its the first time music videos by Irish artist are being recognised by an Irish awards show. This unique, invite only event will be a glamorous night of award giving, live music, and entertainment for approx. 300 music industry professionals, including music journalists, bloggers, PR companies, record labels, producers and musicians.

There will be 8 categories of prizes. Six winners will be selected by the panel of music industry experts including: Sinéad Ní Mhórdha of Phantom FM, Angela Dorgan of First Music Contact, David Coffey Director, Stephen McCormack of IMTV, Niall Byrne of music blog Nialler9, and Dan Hergarty of 2fm. The best newcomer award categories will be chosen by public vote.

Categories will be:

1. Best Live Video
2. Best Styled Video
3. Most Innovative idea for a music video.
4. Best Dance video
5. Best Video by a Solo Artist
6. Best Video by a Newcomer (public vote)
7. Music Video of the Year
8. The Music Video Director of the Year

IMTV producer and presenter, Helen O’Reilly, will host the show and a selection of famous and not so famous personalities will present the awards.
Five top Irish acts will play on the night; these will be announced at a later date.

Nominees will be announced on October 15th.
